Both leaders in the IT industry, Cisco and VMware have collaborated to design and deliver the Cisco Nexus 1000v, a virtual software switch specifically designed to support the network for a virtual server environment.
Simplified Network Management of Virtual Environments
Before the Cisco Nexus 1000v, virtual servers were constrained to limited network management or troubleshooting within the virtual server environment. Today’s traditional physical servers have a tangible network connection, which allows the network team to easily troubleshoot network issues, but troubleshooting virtual servers with virtual network connections can make troubleshooting a network issue much more complex. Only now with the Cisco Nexus 1000v can you achieve simplified network management of the virtual environment. The network team can apply the same troubleshooting methods and management on the virtual server network environment that they use on the physical server network environment.
Cisco Nexus 1000V Virtual Software Switch
The Cisco Nexus 1000V is a software solution that replaces the VMware virtual switch inside the ESX server and provides major improvements over the ESX’s virtual switch. Co-developed by Cisco and VMware, the Cisco Nexus 1000v sits inside the ESX clusters and provides Cisco’s rich switching features along with policy enforcement, automated provisioning, plus diagnostics features for scalable VMware server environments. The Cisco Nexus 1000v brings networking functions back into virtual server farms.
