Dear Captaris Customers,

In January of 2007, Captaris published a statement about the new US Daylight Savings Time (DST) and the effects it will have on the operation of the RightFax program. At that time, after investigating the changes that Microsoft was implementing, we determined that no updates were required for RightFax.

 

As we informed our partners and customers earlier this year, RightFax obtained its date and time information from the operating system on which the software is running. We also know that Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 report time differently, and changes have been made in which Microsoft provided new direction to its development partners for obtaining date and time information with its Windows 2003 application-programming interface.

 

Therefore, we have determined that updates are required to RightFax in order to support time calculations correctly. The issues are related to time processing on any server that resides in a region or locale that observes any form of Daylight Savings Time, anywhere in the world. We now understand that these systems will be affected and will require the updates listed below. RightFax systems that do not obtain and apply these updates may experience fax-processing delays of up to several hours on the day of a daylight savings time change.


 

Captaris has taken immediate action to address the issue and has created an update to both RightFax 9.0 and RightFax 9.3 that permits these versions of RightFax to continue to collect the date and time information from the updated Microsoft operating system. We urge you to download and install these updates to your RightFax 9.0 or 9.3 systems promptly. Please note that customers with RightFax 8.7 systems are not affected by this issue.
